Overview
This case study outlines Oliver’s motivations for selling an IT business, the acquisition journey, and how Tech Acquisitions supported Bowland IT’s growth through the transition.
Background
In 2025, Tech Acquisitions completed the purchase of Bowland IT, a respected Northwest IT provider founded and grown by entrepreneur Oliver Alcock over 13 years. Oliver sought a buyer who would protect his team, uphold service quality, and ensure continuity for long-standing clients. Tech Acquisitions, led by Roger and Jonathan, proved to be the right fit.
Oliver first put Bowland IT on the market in 2023. Tech Acquisitions reached out through the selling agent, and initial conversations took place over MS Teams before progressing to an in-person meeting.
“They struck me as honest, trustworthy and aligned with my team,” Oliver recalls. “They felt like the sort of people I’d like to take over the business.”
Why Oliver chose to sell an IT business
After 13 years at the helm, Oliver felt it was the right time to step aside:
- He had taken the company as far as he could as a solo director.
- Other opportunities were opening up.
- He was ready for a new chapter but wanted to leave Bowland IT in good hands.
Throughout the acquisition process, Tech Acquisitions didn’t just make an offer – they actively helped Bowland IT grow while Oliver still owned it.
Roger and Jonathan worked closely with Oliver to align processes and support operational improvements, which increased the business’s value between offer and completion.
“I put that down to the energy they brought,” Oliver says.
Overcoming concerns about selling an IT business
Like many sellers, Oliver was concerned about selling an IT business and the deal changing late in the process. A previous acquisition attempt with another buyer had collapsed, leaving him cautious.
Tech Acquisitions honoured their offer from start to finish.
“From the moment they offered, nothing changed on the deal. That honesty changed everything.”
Today, Oliver still engages with Bowland IT as a customer through his new business. He hears regularly from former team members who report positive experiences, strong direction, and a smooth transition.
“It’s been a good move for everybody.”
Oliver’s advice to other business owners selling an IT business
“Don’t always chase the biggest offer. Chase the buyer who brings the most value and integrity. If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
Life after Bowland IT
Oliver has since acquired The Printed Cup Company, a reputable manufacturer of branded paper cups based in Clitheroe, marking a new and exciting chapter in his entrepreneurial journey.
“I have no anxiety over selling and leaving the business because I know it’s in good hands. It means I can truly enjoy the next phase of my life.”
A message from Tech Acquisitions
We wish Oliver every success in his new venture and are proud to continue building on the strong foundations he created at Bowland IT.
